Letter From a Seafarer
“This letter was received by LHM
from a Christian Filipino seafarer who
took up a challenge from one of LHM’s
Chaplains to begin a Bible study aboard
his ship. Through the faithfulness of
this seafarer, the Lord has accomplished
amazing results and we give Him the
Glory for this. (The letter has been edited
for flow.)”

Brother N.,
It’s been a long time [since we met]. Anyway,
good day and God bless! I received
your mail on May 25th when we were in
China. I am happy to tell you some good
news. Two of my friends [aboard the ship]
(the electrician and messman) are willing
to know the Lord Jesus.
We started a Bible study in March [and
have been continuing it] up until now.
We meet every Saturday and Wednesday.
I know God is with me because my friends
have already accepted Jesus as their Saviour.
I thank God because He heard my
prayer…
…Is it possible for me to baptise these crew
members? [I want to know because] they
are asking. But, I told them that my job
as a servant of God is to preach His Words.
[However] they are asking who will baptise
them. We are not from the same place [in
the Philippines] so I need to know if it is
okay for them to choose their own congregation
[when they return home].
Actually, when I preach on board [the
ship I am not able to bring those who hear
me] to our Church because sometimes
they go home ahead of me and they [live]
far from my province. Can you give me
[some] advice [so that I can tell] them what
to do or where to go?
I made the preaching here on board [but
after that] they are on their own [when
they go home]. I know that this is not the
proper [thing to do and] that is why I told
them to go and [find] a Christian Church
in [the] place [where they live].
Regards to all of you there in Lighthouse
Seamen’s Centre and God bless you always.
Brother in Christ,
N.
